RimIQ

FIG.01

A wheel & rim visualiser — real-time fitment configurator overlaying wheel specs onto vehicle silhouettes, with live spec calculations across multiple platforms.

// Tech used
  • Realtime Subscriptions

    Entity subscriptions pushed spec changes to every connected viewer instantly, enabling live collaborative configuration.

  • Custom UI

    shadcn/ui primitives re-themed with brutalist tokens, with framer-motion transitions on every fitment toggle.

  • Entities

    Modular JSON schema models for wheel specs, vehicle fitments and compatibility rules — updated live without migrations.

  • Mobile Build

    iOS and Android compiled from the same React codebase — the visualiser renders identically across all platforms.

// Outcome

Shipped in 7 days. Buyers now visualise a full wheel fitment in under 60 seconds, with live spec validation preventing incompatible configurations entirely.

// Build challenges
  1. 01

    Rendering wheel fitment overlays onto vehicle silhouettes in real time as the user changes specs — needed sub-second feedback with no jank.

  2. 02

    Maintaining accurate spec calculations (offset, PCD, centre bore, load rating) across multiple vehicle platforms with different fitment rules.

  3. 03

    Running identically on web, iOS and Android from a single codebase without platform-specific rendering workarounds.

// Case study

RimIQ started as a sales problem. A wheel retailer was losing deals in the DMs: buyers could not picture how a set of rims would actually sit on their car, so every enquiry became a back-and-forth of photos, offsets and fitment questions before anyone committed. Quotes went out days after the interest arrived.

The build puts the whole fitment question on screen. The buyer picks a vehicle, then adjusts diameter, width, offset and finish while the overlay redraws in real time and spec values recalculate against that platform's rules. Entity subscriptions push each change to every connected viewer, so a retailer can configure alongside a customer on a call, and compatibility rules block impossible combinations before they can reach a cart. A modular schema holds wheel specs, vehicle fitments and compatibility rules, so new platforms are added without a migration.

Seven days from brief to launch. Buyers reach a confident, validated fitment in under 60 seconds, fitment questions have largely moved out of the inbox, and the same codebase ships as the web app plus the iOS and Android builds.
